Don’t we all love a good DIY Before and After? We especially love an easy DIY that transforms a regular frame into a vintage frame. Yeah, sign me up!
After our move, I had a lot of bare walls to work with. I also had a looong list of DIYs to tackle! I started out with the living room because it’s the area that we spend the most time in besides the kitchen.
I wanted to use vintage frames for some digital art I had bought but rather than buy the frames, I decided to DIY them and save some money. I went to Michaels, bought antique gold rubnbuff and was hooked! I want to rubnbuff everything! With this stuff, a little goes a long way too. Trust me!
Tools/Materials You’ll Need
- level
- rag
- hammer
- nail
- vintage art: Hillside
Step 1. I repurposed an old frame I had purchased at Target eons ago.
Step 2 I applied a little rub’nbuff and let the magic begin! This little tube goes so far. I’d add a touch onto the frame directly or on a rag and as I rubbed it in, I’d transform long areas of the frame. Once done I let it dry for 30 minutes.
Step 3. I purchased and downloaded this beautiful Hillside digital print from Juniper Print Shop.
Step 4. I printed the digital image and installed it in the frame
Step 5. Finally, I measured the wall area and hung the frame making sure it was level. I love that it has so much character and brings that little space to life. I added a couple of vintage sconces to the outside of the frame, some greenery, and some baskets to complete the look.

Tada! No more bare living room wall. I added a console table, some baskets below for some texture, my DIY antiqued lamps, some greenery to add some dimension, and layered in knick-knacks. It’s not by any means what I eventually would love to put in that space but I’m working with what I have right now! Eventually, I will either paint the console table or replace it. And the floors look really nice even though they are laminate but too orangish for me. I want to lighten up the place with lighter-colored oak floors. Baby steps.
DIY Project Costs
I love that the only costs to this DIY Vintage Frame project were the rubnbuff and the digital art print which was under $15! You can buy an old frame at an antique store for pennies and also save some project costs. This was definitely an Under $20 DIY Project. If you don’t have the listed tools below then your project costs will increase a little.
