After moving into our new home, the DIY’s came eagerly rolling in. I couldn’t wait to decorate MY walls, paint, reno or whatever my heart desired.
No more rental apartment restrictions! Woohoo! Praise God!
So I thought of a way to update the previous gallery wall of pink flower inserts (that came with the frames!) to something more intentional and motivating.
Tools/Materials You’ll Need
- Hammer
- Nails
- Level
- Ruler
- Printer paper or brown paper
- Scissors
- Black Sharpie if using your own script
- Digital file if downloading the word in script font
- Floating frames
I repurposed the 16 x 20 black floating frames and then used brown paper and a sharpie to draw the 9 fruits of the Spirit in the script font. I love it!
Love.
Joy.
Peace.
Patience.
Goodness.
Gentleness.
Kindness,
Faithfulness.
Self Control.
What a great daily reminder that these are the Christ-like characteristics I am boldly aiming for every day! I can’t tell you how many times my kids have looked up on the wall and said, “Mom, don’t forget Joy, or Peace or fill in the blank with the fruit!”
Step 1. I decided to work with what I already had and cut the brown paper out of Trader Joe’s bags but you can easily find brown paper at your local craft store. Michaels carries a great variety of brown paper.
Step 2. I used script and hand-lettered the words on the brown paper. After a few tries, I got it right.
Step 3. Center the paper in the frame.
Step 4. Measure the wall and mark, equally spacing each frame. I also used painter’s tape to make this part easier.
Step 5. Hang your frames. I hung them in 3 rows of 3.
This gallery wall serves many purposes in my home:
- it is an important focal point as you walk into my living room
- it’s a sweet reminder of the character that pleases my Heavenly Father
- it does a great job of providing function and balance to a large wall area that is somewhat odd in its placement
You can use art work in a gallery wall, clever, inspirational sayings, beautiful family pictures or frame photos of your favorite places you’ve visited. Find things you love and arrange in a gallery wall.
This project was fun and so inspirational.
